TAXES:
LOCAL SALES AND USE TAX: Sales and use taxes levied in Lafayette total 8.25%. This total is comprised of 3.50% levied by the City of Lafayette, 2.90% levied by the State of Colorado, and 2.35% for Regional Transportation, Cultural Facilities, Football District, County Open Space, and Recycling.
LOCAL PROPERTY TAX: Taxes on residential and commercial property are levied against a taxable or "assessed" value. Residential assessment is 10% of assessed value and commercial assessment is 29% of assessed value. In Lafayette, an annual property tax of 76.617 mills ($1.00 of tax per $1000 of assessed value) is levied on real and personal property. The following example illustrates the calculation of property taxes. A $200,000 house would have a taxable or assessed value of $20,000 ($200,000 X 10%) X 76.617 mills or about $1512 in annual taxes.
